Pellet Stove Backup Power: Battery or Portable Generator?
The answer to this question
hinges on the length of the
"average" power outage where
you live.

If you live in an area where
power outages are infrequent
and last less than 10 or 12
hours, a battery backup system
for your pellet stove makes the
most sense.

If your average power outage is
measured in days, rather than
hours, you'll need a backup
power source for more
appliances than just the pellet
stove.
These would be your survival appliances like the fridge/freezer, stove top burners, well
pump, a few light bulbs and, most important of all, the large screen TV.

Although a portable generator has the capacity to generate power for many
appliances, a backup battery system can also be sized to provide power to additional
appliances; but not without the risk of draining the battery before the power comes
back on.

The most noticeable difference between a
battery backup system and a portable gas
powered
generator is the noise.

While a battery backup system provides a silent transition to "off grid" power, a
portable generator will be a noisy reminder to your neighbors that you had the
foresight to plan ahead for the safety and comfort of your family.
