U. S. Stove Window Mount Pellet Stove Review
The U.S. Stove window mount pellet stove
shown here bears an uncanny resemblance to
one of those old clunky computer monitors of
yore, albeit with a very small screen.
But what we're really talking about is a relatively
inexpensive, easy to install, slide-in pellet stove
that fits most popular window sizes or can be
installed in wall.
The U S Stove model 2400, 24,000 BTU stove
heats up to 750 square feet and is safe to use
in garages and shops, all-season patio rooms,
small apartments, attic expansions and is
approved for mobile and modular homes.
Installation
The U S Stove window mount installation is similar to that of a window air conditioner.
The installation hardware includes outside bracing, filler panels, and foam insulation.
The minimum wall cut out/window opening is 22 3/4" W x 14" H.
This heater must have a UL or ETL listed non-combustible floor pad (ember protection)
installed beneath it if the floor is made of combustible material.
Cost of Electricity to Operate
During the first few minutes while the stove is firing up the igniter consumes
approximately 425 watts. Once the fire pot is going and the blowers come on they will
consume a total of 175 watts. At 12 cents per kWh this works out to around 2 cents per
hour to run all three blowers.
U S Stove Window Mount Pellet Stove is available from Northern Tool.
This wall mounted stove plugs into any standard outlet and features an automatic
igniter, 30 lb hopper, 5 heat settings from 8,000 - 24,000 BTUs, and will run up to 35
hours on the lowest setting.
Twin blowers force the heated air out of vents located on each side of the unit at the
bottom.
The lowest 8,000 BTU heat setting should easily heat up to 200 sq. ft., but if you need
to crank this unit up in really frigid weather it will burn approximately 2.5 lbs/hr on the
high, 24,000 BTU setting. This works out to around 12 hours of burn time for every 30
lbs of pellets.
Pellets and Cleaning
Only premium pellets are recommended for
burning in the U S Stove model 2400.
The pellet hopper is located at the back of
the stove but is loaded from the front.
One complaint some users voiced was
having to push the pellets from the sides of
the hopper towards the auger every few
hours.
Another quirk of this heater is the lack of a
removable ash drawer. What you do
instead is remove and clean the burn pot
and the areas behind the clean-out door
between firings.
If you use a vacuum to clean your heater,
use one designed for ash removal. Some
regular vacuum cleaners (i.e. shop-vacs)
may leak ash into the room.
